  • Gardening Around Eugene [35 images]
    Early January: mulch hunting in dumpsters, transplating an orchard nursery, the first night of the School Garden Project winter seminar series at the U of O, the Food for Lane County (FFLC) youth garden team on their 3-4 times weekly food scrap pick up from Albertsons supermarket.

  • Gardening with Friends [52 images]
    Mid-January: the Northwest Youth Corps at FFLC's Bailey Hill Garden, gardening with friends up River Road, and in Laurel Hill.

  • River Road EarthBin [43 images]
    Mid-January: Emptying the earthbin composting machine at River Road Elementary school, with the kids, the City of Eugene's composting expert, Annie Donahue, teacher Leia, and volunteers from the SGP. With a gardening class to end the day's activities. Phew.

  • Eugene Waldorf School Gardening Project [43 images]
    Mid-January: A garden-raising (hooray!) at the Eugene Waldorf School with kids, parents, teachers, and volunteers from the Eugene Permaculture Guild and School Garden Project. Compost piles at the Eugene Zendo.

  • Winona LaDuke at OSU [34 images]
    Mid-January: Off to OSU to videotape Winona LaDuke, co-chair of the Indigenous Women's Network, speaking on the state of Turtle Island from an indigenous perspective.

  • Natural Building slideshow [36 images]
    Late January: An EPG-sponsored natural building slideshow at the McNail-Riley House. Digging nettles for transplanting. Worms in compost. Winter trees.

  • Tom Bettman´s pruning workshop [31 images]
    Late January: Tom Bettman of the University of Oregon´s Urban Farm takes his fellow teachers through their annual pruning refresher workshop.

  • A tour of school gardens [33 images]
    Late January: The SGP´s Emily Dietzman takes students on a tour of gardens at South Eugene High School, the Northwest Youth Corps, Goshen Elementary, the Eugene Waldorf and Churchill High Schools.

  • A walk in the rain [24 images]
    January´s end: A half-hour stroll - death, signs of peace, a flowering universe, Khezr.
