Current

  • Local Food Networking

Strengthen our food community, harness the public’s awareness of food related issues, and foster the viability and sustainability of our local food resources.  Organizing around these goals, the Willamette Farm and Food Coalition and Helios Resource Network hosted: Eat Here Now: A Local Food Networking Banquet. We hope this will be the catalyst for regular quarterly networking events around local food issues.

  • Sustainability Indicators Project
The Indicators project will give the residents of Lane County direct feedback about how their community is supporting sustainability and a good, enduring quality of life. Helios is currently gathering data to present to the Eugene public. Each year residents will get a clear concise image of how their social, economic and natural environment (triple bottom line) is doing, as well as how they compare to similar cities, and how Eugene is doing from year to year.

  • Community Matching Grant Program
This is a monetary fund to distribute grants to local non-profit groups.

  • Local First Lane County
This initiative is a public education campaign to encourage Lane County residents to support and promote our locally owned businesses.

  • Liaison with the University of Oregon and Lane Community College
Creation of increasing dialogue between "town and gown" is essential for our community and its sustainability. We choose to expand this initiative to more schools in the future.

  • Water Wall Art Project
A downtown art display, wishing well and fountain that reflects the delicate balance of the eco-system.

Ongoing

  • Sustainable Eugene Listserv
A listserv for announcements related to sustainability in the Eugene-Springfield area. Read more about the listserv.
  • Website
We continue to work on making our website as useful as possible to the public and community organizations. We're updating our directories of community organizations and local businesses and creating information sheets on local resources on a variety of topics.
  • Directories
Comprehensive directories for the Eugene-Springfield area. We have the following directories: (a) Community organizations, (b) businesses, and (c) resource people.
